Why Does Corruption Happen?
We are today living in a time of mass-production. It’s very rare, actually it’s almost unheard of, for an individual to consume food they have made themselves on their own property. It’s slightly more likely that they will have bought the food locally. Far more likely is that they’ve purchased the food from a supermarket, who have purchased from wholesalers, who have purchased from farmers. Those working at a Houston contract warehouse or making Houston fulfillmentof orders could have warehouses chock full of all manner of items, all ready to be moved along to the next individual on the hierarchy, will be getting employment from this type of system, and it’s what helps our society move. But the truth is that doing things this way ensures many people get paid simply for being on top, and not creating anything of their own, it’s for this reason that the global financial crisis happened.
This manner of making things comes from the way any large economic system functions. Once enough people are involved in a business enterprise, someone must be placed at the top, in order to decide who will do what, sounds logical enough so far. So this individual will need to have something in them that means they’re going to be the one that gets them put in this position. Now, we’d hope it would be their skill in a certain area, or their abilities to delegate duties, but the truth is that this person may be just the person who can get others to like him, who has the most cash, or is seen to be the most influential. This person will now be in a position of power, although they are not always suited to do this job out of all the people in the group. Naturally, since they would like to keep their position at the top, they’ll try and manipulate the way the group works so that they appear to still be the best choice.
This is the fashion in which many groups tend to work, from social groups, to work environments to dictatorships to democracies. To take the position of US President as an example, it’s clear that the individual who gets into this position is very rarely the person who can best take care of the country. While George Bush Jr. is a clear example of this, Obama is also an interesting proof of this outlook. While he was capable of inspiring hope and feelings of patriotism within people, and was able to convince many of his ability to alter the way politics works in the US, this has been shown to be simply a cover, as his reluctance to create meaningful change in relation to war, health care and the environment makes clear.
It’s only through acknowledging that this is the way things work that we can begin to critique and take down this flawed system. A true democracy, in which people can take control of their lives at a fundamental level, is the only sustainable way to ensure true freedom for the people of any country.
