In this small piece I’m going to talk about a few ways in which you can maximize your odds when you play roulette online or in a real casino. An effective way to increase your odds is to cover a large section of the board with your chips which result in more wins than losses.

If covering most of the board is your method of play it’s best to use it on a hit and run basis. With a hit and run strategy you play at multiple online casinos and win a small amount at each one before moving onto the next.

The most common form of online roulette is European roulette which has 37 numbers. An easy way to cover the majority of the table is to bet on thirty five numbers on each spin. This will give you a one unit profit each time the ball lands on one of your numbers.

Obviously because you’re betting on 35 of the 37 numbers you have a very good chance of winning. The downside to this system is that you lose 35 units if it lands on either of the numbers you haven’t bet on.

A cheaper alternative to covering most of the table is to bet two units on 1-18 and three units on the third dozen. This results in a four unit profit if the ball lands on the third dozen and a one unit profit if it lands on any number between 1 and 18. You lose the 5 units if the ball lands on any of the following numbers: 0,19,20,21,22,23,24.

This always results in a short term profit of some kind because of the small amount of bets needed and the amount of the table covered. However there’s no combination of bets that can overcome the house edge over the long term and it always catches up when you play for too long or get greedy.

I’ve actually seen commercial roulette systems that use the above theory only with a progression involved to try and generate long term winnings. There are several other ways of covering a lot of the board but you end up betting on parts of the table twice so you’re actually lowering your odds rather than increasing them.
