How to Be Professional While Working At Home, Instead of Going to An Office
With the world all being connected to the wonderful world wide web and the technological advances coming such a long way, a lot of businesses are now saving money on office space by having their employees work at home instead of in their office space. Many people also love the idea but once they start out they find they are not as productive and easily distracted by the home environment . This will give tips to be just as professional at home and even more productive in less time such as setting up a real office in your home including an executive desk or executive desks, setting up work hours, shutting off your home phone and other suggestions .
The first thing to do when preparing for your transition to working from home is to set up an real office space. If you presently have a guest room that hardly gets used, you may want to convert it to your new office. Another suggestion would be to convert part of your basement or perhaps your garage to an office space. This may not be as big of a project as you may think and would pay off later on when it is time to sell your home . If this is not a possibility , then find a room that is peaceful and has more room to set up a real working space .
Now that you have created your office space , it is a smart idea to have it be very professional . Instead of using a foldable tray table invest in purchasing a real desk , one that would be like the one you had at your old office space . If you create a professional space to enter each day within your home , it will help you emotionally to transition into that mode since you no longer have the drive there to do that. In addition to that have a second line installed for a phone line to be used for faxes, etc or simply keep your cell phone as your business phone. These expenses should be covered by your employer .
You must be disciplined with your schedule from home . Once a lot of people work from home, it is easy to get distracted by several things at home, such as the TV, the kids, chores to be completed , etc. If you continue to wake up at the same time you used to to go to your job and because you do not have to commute can get started on your work day a bit earlier . Also, it is important to shower and change just the way you would when you went to your job . Obviously it is not necessary to dress in a suit to be at home, but just the act of showering and getting dressed before you “go to work” also helps to set the tone to be more productive .
Once all of these things are done and you maintain a schedule you will find yourself being more productive in less time which will allow you to enjoy other things outside of work .
