Conjuring Business Logos For Construction Companies
The construction industry is very competitive indeed. More prominent companies handle the larger development jobs while smaller and newer firms must prove their quality with numerous subcontracts before moving on to bigger ones.
My design agency has just been presented an assignment to develop a new logo samples for a local construction firm. To start things off, the art director and I made a visit to our client’s office for a short meeting to gather more information about the company.
Like many others we have interviewed, most companies instinctively know they need a new look to compete but are not really sure what they want. That is where we come into play.
Before starting on the construction company logo design, we ordinarily inquire about the company history, its turnover, its goals, its specialty, its target market and why it wants a new logo design samples; just to get a better feel of things.
We determined that they are a relatively young company, 11 years in the business with 4 big subcontract projects and many minor ones under their belts, each one bigger than the last. They are now advancing to adopt a blue ocean strategy and progress into environmental friendly medium cost suburban development - a niche with very few competitors - and therefore seizing the opportunity to build a reputation for themselves as one of the few firms to engage this niche.
From the meeting, we can ascertain that they have the required resources to engage medium scale development projects. Their chosen niche also makes it easier to distinguish them from other developers.
At our agency, we had a typical brainstorming session and and decided on the conceptual direction. Following that we designated 4 designers to produce individual interpretations or logo design to turn those creative ideas to images.
After a number of days, the initial designs were ready for viewing. Some designs utilized stylized text while others utilized construction related graphics like hardhats and trowels to get the point across. Although all four logo design samples samples were unique in their own way, they all stuck to 2 major points.
Professionalism
Developers deal with major projects. As a prerequisite to be awarded such projects, they must always be seen as a professional and responsible entity with good business ethics. Thus, the clean and clear designs reflected that appropriately.
Eco-Friendliness
This is the niche this firm is determined to penetrate. Obviously, the designs, either by color or graphics, expresses the company’s dedication to the preservation of the environment.
Now it is up to our clients to select one of the four design concepts. However they can certainly make minor alterations but as professional designers, we must make sure the design eventually keeps to the key points expressed earlier.
